Zee Reads

And now we have this month’s installment of Zee Reads.

Which is much preferable to ‘Zee pisses off a fandom’ or ‘Zee is pissed at a fandom’ or ‘Zee goes on hiatus from Tumblr…

First off…

URban

Not my normal fare. At all. Not saying it wasn’t enjoyable, there were parts I laughed at, parts I laughed at that I SHOULDN’T”T have laughed at.

I read to escape. This was not an escape. This book made me think, it brought forth some things I think many of us would like to turn a blind eye to. Children should not live like this. Nor should adults. Of course, I read it for one reason and one reason only.

Fraser Kelly and Richard Armitage in a still from UATSC, source RichardArmitageNet.com

Next up… something I REALLY should have read in High School.

Animal Farm

it’s neat substituting High School English Lit. For years, my son has been better read than I have. When I was in HS – we read weird stuff, short stories that only went 3 to 7 pages in our text book. We read Romeo and Juliet in 9th grade and I was out sick and missed it. Really. This school year, I’ve read several things I SHOULD have read in High School along with the kids I”m subbing for. To Kill a Mockingbird. Night. (That book will hit you in the chest and they – the students – don’t get it.) Othello. Animal Farm.

Interesting how relevant Animal Farm is today.

unconditional

more naughtiness from Lexi Blake. I’ve read this before – it’s part of my grand re-read to the new release (that came out a few weeks ago) and the new novella coming out in a few months. My FAVORITE Dom is coming up in the next one – Damon Knight! This guy is nice as well. Whoot. What I like about these books is, not necessarily the hot bdsm sex, but the personalities, the mountains, the baggage, the characters carry. Ashley is a young single mom, whose ex-boyfriend is a dead beat dad and she’s struggling. Typically the women in this series have body issues and financial challenges. Abusive backgrounds. Some are searching for that ever elusive orgasm. The men, the Dom’s, carry baggage as well; emptiness, the feeling they don’t have what a woman needs, they are unworthy…  I know many won’t like the BDSM Lifestyle, but I love the constant reminder in each of unconditional love and devotion each couple develops.

ted Saves the world 1Ted saves the world 2

Ted Saves the World. There is a series of this. Don’t. Bother. It’s a short novella that needs a lot of filling out. A lot of filling out. This is a problem I have with MOST novellas… it’s like someone wrote the synopsis on a napkin and then just threw things in and finished it in a few days.

Also. Unbelievable. Yeah. Several times, I just tilted my head sideways.  Eh?

Loose Ends

Good Tidings

First 2 of ANOTHER series – I think 7? Female cop from a long line of Irish cops in Chicago is shot and almost dies. Has a near death experience. Comes too with a new talent – she sees and talks to ghosts. Looks at a scene or landscape and sees stuff that’s over 100 years old. Chicago is full of restless spirits so she moves somewhere where it’s not so bad, maybe to get mental peace… and becomes a PI.

Mostly to help the few ghosts find peace.

Throw in a hot Chief of Police with a few ghosts in his closet and a headless corpse that walks through her living room at odd hours and you have a neat little set of novellas.

Winter Witch

Absolutely one of the most beautiful opening lines ever. Very enjoyable book!

I have discovered I live for lunch at the mall with my son on Sunday. After lunch, he goes for a walk and I sit and read for 90 minutes. It’s the most enjoyable part of my week.

And last, on this day in 1970, my best friend in the world was born. Of course, I didn’t think so at the time, because she took up space in my room and yelled a lot, and we fought more often than not for some years, (there as the time she took masking tape and divided our room in half and took a pencil and split the closet in half, as well or did I do that?) but today… yeah. My BBF… my sister.

cheryl

If you think I”M a fireball, I’m VERY VERY tame and quiet compared to her. She’s a pistol! And fun-sized!!!

HAPPY GUY DAY!

Are you excited??? I am!

hmmmm yesssss

I have WORKED like every day this week. Actually, the last 3 weeks have been wonderful, seeing how February sucked moldy rocks work wise. And we still have another week in the pay period. Whoot. This is mostly why I’ve been so quiet as of late.

I have decided that when my tax return comes in, I’m going to buy a new computer. One with a bigger screen. And more ram. And a decent graphics card. The one I have sucks, the digital feed, any kind of video feed sucks (yet another reason why I was initially sooooo happy about the Theater Release for The Crucible and then my hopes were so cruelly dashed…

*shakes fist at Digital Theatre (who I STILL haven’t heard from) and whoever it is that owns the copy right. I’m not going to see YOUR version of it either! No matter WHO you cast!*

Every tax return I’ve gotten in the last 3 years has gone to doctors or into my old Buick. I have been amazingly HEALTHY this winter and the Buick is I believe off to the junk yard. So I will be quite pleased to spend it on something NOT health related or car related.

My doctor called yesterday and told me she needed to see me before my scheduled appointment later in April. I’m going to run out of meds. We need to talk. The Glimpiride is doing it’s job too well and I’ve already cut the dosage in half once. I couldn’t get my blood sugar out of the 70’s yesterday, even after sugar binging. I finally got it up into the 90’s after dinner.

And then dad went and got us Frostys and my blood sugar this morning was 162…

I’m reading… I’ve read a lot of books this month. And I’m writing a lot as well. I’m probably driving the archivist at RASF nuts. I went to update Aside from Heaven at Ffnet only to discover I had never loaded the last chapter. I’ve learned the hard way NOT to upload 2 chapters at once. It attracts the flamers. I think this weekend I”ll do the rounds at all my archives and make sure they’re all current.

I wish Watty would fix their shit. I’d like to resume uploading there, but having to completely reformat after I’ve done the work after I load… Why do they insist on adding stuff that doesn’t need to be added??? Grrrrrrrrrrrrr…

I’m off to the races… (not really) I’m just a chair warmer today. But here. Have some Guy…

I don’t want to hear ONE WORD about objectifying!

you will be punished

We're having sex

tumblr_muu68scYeW1qfdneyo1_400

I just want to crawl in his mouth. And stay there.

We are getting cold weather back this weekend. After temps in the 70’s and 80’s we have a freeze warning for Saturday night. What is UP with that??? geeeeeeeeeezopetes!

Y’all have a great weekend. Spawn and I are going to a concert at UGA tomorrow. Should be nice. We haven’t gone to a concert together in ages!

Good morning and how are we all?

I have been a busy camper! I actually worked more last week alone than I did the entire month of February! Same this week as well. Trying to get in as many hours before Spring Break (first week of April) as possible!

The weather is lovely, still having an occasional cool day, but for the most, the highs have been in the 70’s and I’m getting great use out of my sunroof! Time to stock the car with CDs and Beach Boys!

I’m reading a lot, writing a lot, knitting a bit…

Let’s not discuss Tumblr.

curlers-gif1

Let’s not discuss The Crucible either. Really.

I mean it. I really mean it.

Today, I was flipping through youtube and found something lovely. I have a lot of pieces that are my favorite, lots of variations, lots of genres. Depends on my mood. I’ll be honest saying Rachmaninoff is always in my top 5. Always. This piece is on my bucket list. And this vid is probably absolutely the greatest recording of the Variations on a theme by Paganini I’ve ever heard.  Danil is SO young (or looks it) and I love the expressions on his face. He’s having such a good time.

Zees Reads Reading Challenge

So for those of you who are following along with my reading exploits this year, here are the combined 3 challenges I’m doing.

  1. A book you pick solely because of the cover

  9. A book written by someone under 30
  10. A book with non human characters
  11. a funny book
  12. a book by a female author
  13. a mystery or thriller
  14. a book with a one-word title
  15. a book of short stories
  16. A book set in a different country
  17. a nonfiction book
  18. a popular author’s first book
  19. a book from an you love that you haven’t read yet
  20. a pulitzer prize-winning book
  21. a book based on a true store
  22. a book that scares you
  23. a book more than 100 years old
  24. A memoir
  25. a book you can finish in a day
  26. a book with antonyms in the title
  27. A book that came out the year you were born
  28. a book with bad reviews
  29. a trilogy
  30. A book with a love triangle

  35. A book written by an author with your same initials
  36. A book set during Christmas
  37. A play
  38. A banned book
  39. A book based on or turned into a TV Show

Some of the books will answer more than one requirement. Others I find rather ridiculous – a book you own. I own ALL of the books I’m reading… except for the library one I’ll have to pick out, of course. I guess that will be a book that does double duty.

For the most part, I have them picked out, except for the categories that are bolded and underlined. I figure a Trilogy will happen. I don’t want to decide on a trilogy and then hate the first book so much I really don’t want to read the rest. Ex – 50 Shades of Grey. I started that one, skimmed it and was revolted by it, so it’s going to be the one I power my way through as The Book That Got Awful Reviews. I might need this…

vomit bucket

I could be pissy and actually read The Crucible for my Play spec, seeing how I’m not plunking down buckies to download it from a disreputable site. I hear they’re selling the interview now as well. Seeing how they could be assed to at least respond to my official complaint… No Digital. Not impressed. At all.

I suppose I could read Shakespeare. Or… something else. I dunno. I’m not a Shakespeare fan. Maybe I could READ Hamlet… or maybe I could fudge a little and say since I listened to Richard read Hamlet to me, then I read it… sorta.

Maybe not. That would be cheating, I suppose.

We’ve found old video tapes. Apparently, when my son was QUITE young, his grandfather allowed him to roam the house with it, making various comments about life, love, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Cinnamon Rolls. It’s been quite amusing. I had quite forgotten what he sounded like before his voice changed.

Will Release Issues for Urban and the Shed Crew Bring More Frustration for Richard Armitage Fans?

Great. It would become another Crucible.

This week it was announced that there was a private screening of Urban and the Shed Crew, which has also been submitted for consideration to the Cannes Film Festival. ( It seemed to be very well received)

What’s next?

The  eligibility requirements for submitting a film for  competition selection to the jury are here. They include the following:

CONDITIONS

• Films whose distribution is limited to its country of origin

This means that there is a chance that  Urban and the Shed Crew could be released in the UK before the dates of  the film festival, May 13- 24, 2015. But it can only be released in the the UK, if it is to  meet the standards of eligibility for pre-submission in any of three main categories.

First, my thought is that if it is…

Digital Theatre, that is.

Unsubbed from mailing list, 4 times. Marked them as spam the last time. Sent a Contact Us email of complaint of Friday.

It is Wednesday Evening. Still nothing. Not that I expected them to do the right thing and apologize. But I think LESS of them as they can’t be assed. All this does is strengthen my resolve to not bother with it. Breaks my heart. I would have loved to have seen it, but not when the company in charge of the distribution is being such asshats.

Thinking it might be time to blacklist The Crucible, John Proctor, etc on Tumblr.

After gaining back all the weight I lost last summer over the holidays and pissing off my doctor and my blood sugar going through the roof and the new meds giving me fits (I had 2 days I couldn’t get it over 83) I have

a) cut back the new meds

b) swapped cokes for water, diet Dr Pepper and black tea with caffeine

c) have developed a love for Greek Yogurt – that DOESN”T have strawberries or peaches (not the kind of peaches I want) or carmelized rocks

d) am eating sensibly. Cheerios at breaksfast, sometimes a fruit elevensees – I swear I am a Hobbit! – one Greek Yogurt at lunch, the 2nd one an hour later with water water water another sensible snack when I get home (usually string cheese or Skinny Girl Popcorn) and a reasonable dinner. I MIGHT have another string cheese late.

My blood sugar the last few days has been in the low 100’s. (This morning was 106) and I’ve lost 8 pounds since I saw my doctor 3 weeks ago.

And I’ve not been up at the track yet. whoot!

now… me and my honey are going to go celebrate… gimme some sugah!

A Greek Yogurt I do not like.

I’m becoming quite the connosuire.  (I just misspelled that. I know it.) Yoplat is the bomb. Great Value (Walmart’s off brand) is pretty okay, except they seem to think that everyone like strawberries, so if you buy combo Greek Yogurt or a 4 pack, there will be strawberries. And I don’t like strawberries. I prefer my berries of the wild variety. You know…. Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Richardberries.

hmmmm yesssss

sorry. Side tracked.

(That would an example of the wild subgenus Guyberry. Also known as leatherberry. *coughs*)

Either way… I have found a flavor I do NOT like.

Carmelized Almonds and Yogurt.

I forget the brand. the Almonds are in a side tubette and you have to spoon them over. I was hoping for ALMONDS. What I got was rocks. Little beige rocks. It was not appetizing. At all. Crunchy, yes. The yogurt itself tasted slightly sour. My appetite was definitely set off. I ate it, it wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t spoon-licking worthy.

tumblr_nhip5yImAc1rotdv6o3_250

AH yes. The subgenus Porterberry! Definitely lickable!

tumblr_miqorzx9Kn1qd6laho3_500

Uhm… yeah. DEFINITELY lickable….

And preferable to the crap I let slide down my throat an hour ago!

And the neat thing is, the almond thing had more calories than the others I like… even the applie pie one. So I won’t have to worry about it!!!!

I’m going to look at the lickable berries again….

It appears that hell hath frozen over. Digital is (finally) releasing The Crucible to the teeming unwashed masses of grateful people willing to accept dregs and the last crumbs from the table.

How do I know this?

Not because of the Tweets or the blogs screaming praises to the digital gods for putting every one out of their misery.

Not because of the interviews that are being released…

But because Digital sent me a fucking email AGAIN to tell me about it!

(for those unaware of the saga, I have unsubscribed from Digital’s email updates, 3 times now, the first time in December when it was announced that the American Audiences were being thoroughly dissed and the 3rd time, some weeks back.)

I marked the damn thing as spam and went to the website to curse at their ‘Contact Us’ page.

I guess I didn’t blow enough sunshine up their ass because there were consistent errors. So I did the email us thing.

2 hours after I email, I get notification that I have to CREATE A FUCKING ACCOUNT for my email request to go through. By now i”m pretty desperate to make sure nothing they send out ever comes to my box again, so I created the damn account.

At midnight, I get a notice that YAY I now have an account at a place I never intend on visiting again and it will take 5 business days for someone to ‘see to my request’ and they are only open Mon-Fri from 1 to 1:04 PM so please be patient.

You’ve got to be effing kidding me…

I realize that I am one, single lone crabby Richard Armitage fan, so therefore my voice doesn’t mean a hill of beans, but it means a hill of beans to me. I don’t appreciate the grandstanding and the rubbing in the face of any of this.

I am now going to go into the kitchen and eat something that will make my blood sugar skyrocket.
