And now we have this month’s installment of Zee Reads.
Which is much preferable to ‘Zee pisses off a fandom’ or ‘Zee is pissed at a fandom’ or ‘Zee goes on hiatus from Tumblr…
First off…
Not my normal fare. At all. Not saying it wasn’t enjoyable, there were parts I laughed at, parts I laughed at that I SHOULDN’T”T have laughed at.
I read to escape. This was not an escape. This book made me think, it brought forth some things I think many of us would like to turn a blind eye to. Children should not live like this. Nor should adults. Of course, I read it for one reason and one reason only.
Next up… something I REALLY should have read in High School.
it’s neat substituting High School English Lit. For years, my son has been better read than I have. When I was in HS – we read weird stuff, short stories that only went 3 to 7 pages in our text book. We read Romeo and Juliet in 9th grade and I was out sick and missed it. Really. This school year, I’ve read several things I SHOULD have read in High School along with the kids I”m subbing for. To Kill a Mockingbird. Night. (That book will hit you in the chest and they – the students – don’t get it.) Othello. Animal Farm.
Interesting how relevant Animal Farm is today.
more naughtiness from Lexi Blake. I’ve read this before – it’s part of my grand re-read to the new release (that came out a few weeks ago) and the new novella coming out in a few months. My FAVORITE Dom is coming up in the next one – Damon Knight! This guy is nice as well. Whoot. What I like about these books is, not necessarily the hot bdsm sex, but the personalities, the mountains, the baggage, the characters carry. Ashley is a young single mom, whose ex-boyfriend is a dead beat dad and she’s struggling. Typically the women in this series have body issues and financial challenges. Abusive backgrounds. Some are searching for that ever elusive orgasm. The men, the Dom’s, carry baggage as well; emptiness, the feeling they don’t have what a woman needs, they are unworthy… I know many won’t like the BDSM Lifestyle, but I love the constant reminder in each of unconditional love and devotion each couple develops.
Ted Saves the World. There is a series of this. Don’t. Bother. It’s a short novella that needs a lot of filling out. A lot of filling out. This is a problem I have with MOST novellas… it’s like someone wrote the synopsis on a napkin and then just threw things in and finished it in a few days.
Also. Unbelievable. Yeah. Several times, I just tilted my head sideways. Eh?
First 2 of ANOTHER series – I think 7? Female cop from a long line of Irish cops in Chicago is shot and almost dies. Has a near death experience. Comes too with a new talent – she sees and talks to ghosts. Looks at a scene or landscape and sees stuff that’s over 100 years old. Chicago is full of restless spirits so she moves somewhere where it’s not so bad, maybe to get mental peace… and becomes a PI.
Mostly to help the few ghosts find peace.
Throw in a hot Chief of Police with a few ghosts in his closet and a headless corpse that walks through her living room at odd hours and you have a neat little set of novellas.
Absolutely one of the most beautiful opening lines ever. Very enjoyable book!
I have discovered I live for lunch at the mall with my son on Sunday. After lunch, he goes for a walk and I sit and read for 90 minutes. It’s the most enjoyable part of my week.
And last, on this day in 1970, my best friend in the world was born. Of course, I didn’t think so at the time, because she took up space in my room and yelled a lot, and we fought more often than not for some years, (there as the time she took masking tape and divided our room in half and took a pencil and split the closet in half, as well or did I do that?) but today… yeah. My BBF… my sister.
If you think I”M a fireball, I’m VERY VERY tame and quiet compared to her. She’s a pistol! And fun-sized!!!
