I’m trying to wrap my brain around this

Thursday evening into Friday morning, Georgia experienced wet weather along with below freezing temperatures.

On Friday morning, there was a multi-car pile up on a major freeway going through Atlanta. And by multi-car – I’m talking two digits numbers. Black ice was blamed.

On my way into work, I passed THREE cars off the road. Thank you Jesus, they were one car accidents and all of them were basically spin outs that hit nada. There was one wreck – fender-vender. No injuries, except to bumpers.

All of these could be attributed to black ice.

It was the talk of the news radio networks all weekend. I listened to departments whine and fuss – well there wasn’t any salt down because we didn’t receive word from the weather service it was going to be a problem.

And one department was blaming another department. It was someone else’s fault.

And I was reminded why we were the laughing stock of the world last February when we had snow flakes and our infrastructure imploded on itself.

What has happened to our common sense? Must we rely on another ‘department’ to tell us what common sense should?

It RAINED on Thursday. Temperatures DROPPED below freezing Thursday night.

Me, with NO meteorological logic knows this means ice and common sense told me to leave early for the school and drive slowly and carefully, especially in curves where there were a lot of trees!

Is this so difficult?

Even Guy thinks we’re stupid.

That’s bad.

So this morning

I get a phone call from the local elementary school – Pleeeeeeeeeeease come sub for us!!! We’re desperate! Take your pick!!!!

Wasn’t much of a pick – PreK Para, (herding kittens) SpecEd (herding kittens) and 1st grade (herding kittens.) I chose the older kittens.

I came home wearing a zillion stickies because I was told it looked like I ‘needed’ lots of purple sparkly hearts.

At the end of the day, as I was herding my kittens to the front, a little girl I had never seen before runs up to me, grabs my hand and says – I’ll walk with you. She was all pinked out – complete with pink glasses. After a little ways she says – I like you. You look nice.

now, I’ve not said a WORD to this child – just holding her hand so I asked her – what makes you think I’m nice? Her response…

Why, because you’re wearing glasses.

Can’t argue with that.

Not surprised

So word has come down that the Oscars do what the Oscars do –

Snub fantasy and nominate films I’ve NEVER heard of and NEVER seen. There appears to have been a nod to sound editing.

Nothing for make-up or acting and people, regardless of what you think of PJ’s efforts, I can name a LOT of members of that cast that acted their hearts out and made this old lady believe in Dwarves and Hobbits and Dragons!

So this is what I think of the Oscar Committee.

I’ve not watched the Oscars since RotK won everything how long ago.

Actually, the year after, I made an effort to be more cosmopolitan and rented all of the nominees for Best Picture, Best Director, Best actor, actress, supporting…

yes, friends, because you are. Really. How is your New Year treating you? Sadly, I’m crawling into my hidey hole until spring and staying there.

It is cold. It is not only cold, it is raining. And if it’s not raining, it is COLDER. I’m sorry, if it’s going to be cold AND rainy, I need someone warm to cuddle up with. Really.

Last week, my father had a stroke. It was mild, he was lucky, HomeHealth just came by and said he’s doing great. The tests they ran on him in the hospital showed other things that MUST be addressed and this mini-stroke was a godsend and a heads up.

And I have had a serious sit down with The Almighty in attempted to deal with the half-hearted things I toy with in my life.

I HAVE to kick my Caffeine habit – those who know me, know my caffeine riddled preferred drink is Coca Cola. I have gained back 7 pounds of the 15 I lost, so this cold and wet is doubly irritating because my preferred exercise is walking on a paved grid with my MP3 player going full blast. There will be serious consequences I can’t afford if my A1C isn’t down in 3 weeks. That’s just how it is and a fact. I”m craving the cokes, I’m craving comfort food, I’m craving a lot of things and I’m down right irritable right now.

Actually, I”m feeling pretty dang nasty about certain subjects and staying quiet has worked so far. (that’s a fib. I’ve sputtered a few places, but I have not cut loose and let me guarantee-  you do NOT want that!)

In the meantime, I’m writing and writing lots. Expect the first in a series of Manna side ficlets to begin, in addition to a Gary Fuller piece of fluff, my Big Bang (Rohirrim) a Diary ficlet or two (more Rohirrim) and a new Dwalin ficlet. (Finally, someone will have the guts to tell Tauriel to shit or get off the pot!)

I need to take a closer look at my unupdated DOOM fic… as well as one other that appears, to all, to have been… well… abandoned. Sigh.

Dad had a stroke. It was minor. He spent three days in the hospital and tests show that the arthritis that is in every bone in hid body is causing the place where the spine and the skull join to be pressing on the nerves and if not dealt with in some manor, will cause paralysis. My body hurts just to think about it and I need to make some changes.

As you can see, I kinda want someone to come along and piss me off. So if one more person crosses my path, claiming Richard ‘needed help’ from a lesser actor with fewer well-established acting roles, to get a job – like Richard DOESN”T have a Agent or a PR team or you know, Thorin wasn’t a huge role, as John Proctor wasn’t huge, or North and South, and you know, his shot as Guy of Gisborne was sort of blink or you’ll miss him kind of role, or Lucas North or Porter anyone? If that keeps up? It’s gonna be bloody.

Sigh.

I think next time I’m in, I’ll ask for blood pressure meds.

Sigh. Heart Attack in my room. Stat.

Resolutions and stats.

Happy New Year!

It has rained here since the beginning, so so far, it’s been cold and wet. Not an auspicious start. I have a wretched feeling January and February are going to be dreadful.

I actually made resolutions this year. Every year, I do one; which is to weigh less or at least NOT more than I did on January 1st last year. 2014 was a good year for me diet-wise. 15 pounds off. I actually managed to make it to 18 or 20 pounds, but the holidays did me in. I do have to strive to do better this year. If it would STOP RAINING, I would go walk.

Sadly, two of my resolutions I made on the 31st have already been drop-kicked to the wayside.

a) Fewer coca-colas. And of course, my dad comes home with three 2 liter bottles and 4 cases. Why does he do this? Needless to say…. I’m scared to check my blood-sugar in the mornings. If it is in the house and opened, I must drink it. It will go flat, y’know.

b) I want to be less abrasive this year. Of course, then I go on a a forum where a woman asks for opinions and I gave mine. Another took offense and well… my sandpaper came out.  scritch scritch scritch scritch

I guess I could try again. Sigh.

In other news, I’m being inundated (and enjoying it) of everyone’s top 10 posts from last year. I got the email and it gave me 5. I went to the ‘stat site’ to get all 10 and all it says is – DON”T YOU LOVE THIS NEW SET UP? Go HERE to return to the ‘classic view’ of stats.

Which doesn’t tell me shit. Just – tell us why you prefer the classic view.

I’d go ask someone how to figure out how to get my top 10, but my last foray into the Help site was ugly and the thread was closed due to the idiocy and combativeness of the players. *whistles innocently*

Either way, according to the site generated whozits, my busiest time was later June, when The Crucible opened and I seem to be extra chatty on Tuesdays.  My most viewed entries were rather interesting. I’d like to think I’m a RA-centric blog, but apparently I’m not. Personally, I think there are enough people who blog strictly Richard and they do my work for me, me being such a lazy shit. But I thought my Richard-picture spamming would generate the most views – and in many cases, this is correct. Truth is, I really don’t know WHAT kind of blog this is…. I’m still trying to figure that one out. Suggestions and opinions would be most appreciated.

Suffice to say, I think my top 5 viewed posts (which is all I can manage to coerce out of WordPress) to be most telling. The first two were – what I thought – random posts. The middle one was a film review and the 4th and 5th were – well, me spanking the fandom for spanking the fandom.

Someone last week did a questionnaire about me and when asked what they associate with me, they came up with ‘fiery temperament.’

Which spawned the ‘less abrasive’ resolution, but I digress.

I take that back. Apparently, since I looked at this last night, my 5th has changed from me spanking the fandom to another film review.

psst! I started on that jacket I’ve been in love with for 8 months…

I have this problem with casting on really tight – actually I KNIT pretty tight and the instructions called for casting on LOOSELY. So after much thought, I casted on with size 15 needles. (1oMM) and knitting the body with the required size 8’s (5MM)

Also, seeing how I have a big butt, it’s going to be longer. The gauge calls for 24 inches from neck to bottom. I gauged for 30. It will go to the top of my thighs. The only worry will be the sleeves. It’s not being knitted top to bottom – or vice versa – but side to side.

Should be interesting.
