I was distressed (whining) about the fact that my feminine parental unit is a crazy-assed serial killer of shrubs and trees and she not be allowed near a chain saw or long handled giant shrub clippers???
And I cried (and whined) that there would be no figs for jam or newtons????
Guess what????
It lives.
IT LIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!
There are even figs!!!!
Okay, so now we know where MINI-fig newtons come from…
See? Even HE thinks I’m amusing…
Remind me to tell you about the time my MIL took her loppers to the gorgeous rhododendron bush in front of our house just as the buds started to open. Rather, don’t remind me because I still cry. Glad you’ll have Newtons!
My mom does that to the Camilla bushes. She’s been trying to kill them since they moved in, but they keep coming back. I wish she’d just leave them alone. They’re gorgeous!
How cool is that? You have your own figs? Now that’s something which just doesn’t happen up here in the land of the midnight sun 😀
Normally, the birds get to the figs before we do and if there ARE any left, our landlady gets them. We DO have a boo-koo of blueberry bushes and we used to be able to go into the woods for blackberries, but we couldn’t get INTO the woods for briars this year and last year, they were so juicy when you pulled one, it exploded in your hands, so we just pick ‘n lick!
I’ve read before that aggressive pruning is good for flowering trees, shrubs, and fruit bearing things …
You don’t understand… my mother is the Hannibal of shrubbery. It’s not healthy….
What Serv said. Amazing isn’t it? And if you (or someone) happened to give it lots of water and food immediately after the trim, that likely helped. Myself, I feel blessed that I have giving friends who have Fig and other fruit trees.
We have so many frozen blueberries in our freezer. Really. The last 2 years have been abundant and that’s WITH the fact we invite our friends – PLEASE come pick our blueberries!!!! PLEASE!!!!! Come pick all you want. Come again next week! Pick some more!
I love friends like that. If I am around, I am there. I have friends with orange, lemon, avocado, and those fig trees – both green and black. They really don’t have to ask me twice. I come with basket and I always bring the wine. My grandmother had a black fig tree and made fig jam, pies and tarts constantly. I can’t get enough. But green figs (with sharp cheese and red wine, of course 😉 ) are my favorite.
So that’s an idea…throw a picking party. 🙂
We’ve had those!!! They’re fun!
